The Story of a Dragon and a Girl

The Story of a Dragon and a Girl

Deep in the Pacific Ocean there lies a lost island. For thousands of years the island's volcano had been asleep but now you can feel the ground rumbling as the lava began to rise under the volcano.  At the foot of the volcano there stood a cave with an ancient dragon egg resting against some rocks.  As the heat from the lava warmed the cave the egg began to crack.  The volcano roared and out of the cave flew a baby dragon, who crashed straight into a tree!  “Ouch” it roared, “flying is not easy”. The dragon was coloured orange, red, and gold with green eyes. It had pink spikes on its back and light blue circles all over its body that glowe and two horns. The dragon explored the island but then the dragon  got bored “there must be more than this island out there” said the dragon. After Five weeks of practising flying the dragon feels like it's ready to fly over the sea and find  another island to explore so it sets off on its journey. Then the dragon sees an island and flys over to it. The dragon sees a sign, it says Awatuna New Zealand.  He saw a blue animal with wheels moving really fast, so fast that it nearly crashed into him so he flew away.  The dragon kept flying until it saw a pond next to a house.  There was a girl kayaking on her pond.  The dragon loved water so flew down and dived into the water next to her.  There was such a splash it made her kayak roll upside down and she fell out.  The girl couldn’t swim and was sinking down to the bottom of the pond.  The dragon quickly scooped her up with its talons and flew her out of the water.  The girl climbed up onto the dragon's back.  You might have thought that she was afraid but she shouted “woohoo!”as they soared through the air and they became friends. The girl told the dragon her name is Elizabeth and Elizabeth called the dragon Charlie. Elizabeth and Charlie were flying to explore the north island so they flew and flew and then had a lunch break at a river. Elizabeth had her peanut butter sandwich and Charlie caught a fish and in one second he chomped it down. Elizabeth looked at him with surprise and then he burped. Elizabeth said “pardon you” and they both started laughing. Then they packed up their belongings and set off to explore the north island. They flew for a few hours over land then Elizabeth told Charlie that she had to go to the toilet so they landed close to some trees and Elizabeth ran over and did what you do when you go to the toilet, “Ahhh” she said and they set off again. Soon they came to the edge of the land at the top of the South Island. Charlie was tired and flew immediately into the water. Elizabeth splashed to the surface and onto the sand. Charlie said to Elizabeth “could we rest here for a while?”.  Elizabeth said “fine” in a growly face. “Straight in the morning we leave,” Elizabeth said.  Ok, said Charlie. “All right we better make a fire and a shelter because it’s going to rain tonight” Elizabeth said. So they both got sticks for the shelter and made fire inside and gathered some fruit and meat to eat. After half an hour Elizabeth and Charlie were tired but they did finish the shelter and the fire. It was hard work. Charlie loved the beach because it was sprinkled with shells in light pink and light blue and the little rare ones that were yellow.  The beach was lined with coconut trees and bushes with colourful berries.  It felt like paradise to Charlie.  In the morning Charlie did not want to leave the magical beach. He wined and begged Elizabeth to stay the day at the beach but Charlie did want to explore the north island too.  He decided to head north but kept a special shell he found at the beach to remember this beautiful place.  They flew for hours passing mountains, forests, clouds, lakes and rivers and some houses.  Eventually they arrived at Auckland.  It was very busy with lots of people and animals with wheels.  “ Oh I forgot to tell you those animals with wheels are actually cars Charlie” said Elizabeth. They flew away from the noisy city to a large garden with big trees and landed on a grassy bank next to a pond. Suddenly there was a loud roar!  Charlie looked behind him to find an angry lion roaring at him.  They had landed in Auckland zoo!  They quickly left the lion enclosure and flew over the zoo checking out all the animals there.  Charlie loved the monkeys and giraffes while Elizabeth loved the tigers and elephants.  They felt very special as all the people took lots of photos of them although some were very scared and hid from them especially when Charlie blew fire from his mouth at the lion's lunch.  The lion was sad that Charlie burnt his meat and growled at him. Charlie said “sorry I thought you would like your meat crispy because I do” and got some more meat for the lion. Elizabeth said “we should go home, my mum must miss me by now.” Ok said Charlie. So they flew all the way home and Elizabeth’s mum said “I missed you so much Elizabeth and you Charlie.  Did you look after Elizabeth?” Charlie nodded. “Well I think you two should spend some time at home for a while”.  Charlie and Elizabeth did not have any more adventures. Until Elizabeth’s mum said why don't we go on holiday to Christchurch... The end.
